What killed MySpace?

MySpace was once on top of the internet social media world boasting 70 million unique visitors a month and generating $600 million in ads revenue at its peak. In 2005, News Corp. purchased it for $580 million. Everything was going super well for the company. Surprisingly, MySpace has fallen into oblivion fast during the last couple years with its subscriber growth stalling. The company was just sold again for a poultry $35 million. So what happened? Did Facebook kill MySpace?

I've read reports that say Rupert Murdoch killed MySpace. Although Rupert Murdock knows much about TV and Newspaper media, he doesn't seem to have a full grasp about how social media works. After News Corp. bought MySpace, the site's growth began to stall.

Question of practicality! Facebook has a uniform look and feel. You know where you can find a person's relationship status. You know what a page is going to look like. Personalizing the skin in Myspace was the killing point that pushed user to look for a much more practical cloud system that focused on content rather than the look.
